BADSEY Village Hall will be the venue for the world premier of a musical comedy next week.
Members of the Phoenix Theatre Group are hoping that originality will be the key to attracting full houses to its new farce, A Criminal Act.
The comedy, which follows the uncovering of murder and dark deeds during pantomime rehearsals, was written and set to music by members of the company.
Group secretary Jenny Perkins said the decision to stage a new play was taken in order to build on past successes. "We had such a great response with `Allo, `Allo last year people were always asking us what we were going to do to follow it. We decided we should go ahead and do something totally different."
The musical score for the play has been written and arranged by Matt Davis, who is studying music at University College, Worcester. He will have an added pressure during the run of the show because his contribution will count towards the final grade of his qualification.
The plot itself was developed alongside Nick Rose, who has written scripts for previous Phoenix productions.
Mrs Perkins said the new farce has already begun to shape up in rehearsals. "It is a great show, it's very funny, has great music and the plot has lots of twists and turns. All I really need to say is that it isn't really suitable for children - it is definitely something for the grown-ups."
The play premieres at Badsey Village Hall next Thursday, June 17, and runs until Saturday.
