A LEADING style magazine has dubbed Chipping Norton the "G-spot" of Britian's top social set, while the Slaughters are dismissed as tres passe.
These were the conclusions of an article in Tatler magazine that said: "The hottest spot is west Oxfordshire - in particular between Chipping Norton (or Chippy, as it's called by those in the know) and Blenheim.
"One eminent local described Chippy as the 'county's G-spot'."
The magazine draws attention to the amount of very rich or well-known people who live near the town with a roll-call including Jeremy Clarkson, Camilla Sainsbury, and James Hewitt.
Mayor of Chippy, Jo Graves, said: "I do not generally take Tatler but I read the article after I heard the word out on the street.
"I thought it put us in quite a good light. It is the first time that we have seen Chippy as the centre of Oxfordshire.
"It is a fact that this neck of the woods has more than its share of celebrities but generally people in the town are not in awe.
"We are work-a-day people who get on with our own lives.
"At the end of the day, we always knew that Chippy was a good place to live.
"We have got a lot to offer -it is perfect place to wine and dine, whatever your palate you can find something to satisfy you.
"And the theatre is a lovely, intimate space and has such a wide range in its programme.
"Chippy has so much going for it - but we tend not to broadcast it abroad so much," she added.
