Opening up opportunities

ON December 30, Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway ran its first train into Cheltenham Racecourse Station. When proper services commence over this new section in just over two years time, it will bring even more visitors into the North Cotswolds area, not only increasing the railway's income but also that of other tourist-related businesses in the area.   more...

Grey power - it's a force to reckon with

THE Evesham District Pensioners Association is acutely aware of the dangers of letting governments past and present manage the NI pensions, trusting them not to abuse the security and dignity of members who have paid into the scheme for 40 years or more.   more...

Dogs of the district - unite for training

ON behalf of my fellow-canines, I must respond to Rosalind Humphrey's letter with Wychavon District Council's comment, on a subject which we dogs find most embarrassing: that of dog-fouling. It is widely known that we are (Wo)Man's Best Friend: we live to serve, obey, befriend and devote our lives to the service of our masters and mistresses.   more...

Oblivious to all except the kill

I HAVE been following the hype of the hunting community, ingratiating themselves with the populace in an effort to survive the current vote. As a country chap, I do not want to be associated with them in any way. This is what happened to me in my early teens, returning home from Campden School for lunch.   more...

The very best of service for us

WE had our bungalow up for sale with Darlows Estate Agents. On Thursday, December 21 they went into receivership. On the same evening, I was told by a friend who had heard it on the local radio station. On Tuesday, January 2, Shipway's came to our rescue, I telephoned the manager at Evesham office, he was with us within one hour, our bungalow was on the market again within two hours. This was the best service you could get. Thank you all very much at Shipways.   more...

AS a former resident of Evesham, I was delighted to discover the Journal web site while browsing through the internet today.   more...

No more upheaval

I'M writing because my BT phone isn't working! I'm alarmed to see in the Journal, January 11, on page 9, that my favourite car dealer, Pershore Motors is under scrutiny for the new district plan. Is there also a threat to the well-regarded `Sam's Garage' behind? Please tell me that further drastic upheaval is not planned to follow on the extensive Severn Trent digging up of the town's streets.   more...

THE intervention of the Charity Commission into the affairs of Stratford Town Council was always going to cause sweeping change, but when the investigation first started perhaps no-one could envisage the demolition of one of the town's most well-known recent buildings, which now appears to be more than a possibility.   more...
